A self-styled hockey mom and political reformer, Pallin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 6,500, until she became governor.Palin flew overnight to an airport in Ohio near Dayton, and even as she awaited her formal introduction, some aides said they had believed she was at home in Alaska.
She is a former mayor of Wasilla who became governor of her state in December, 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election.
More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.
Palin has a long history of run-ins with the Alaska GOP hierarchy, giving her genuine maverick status and reformer credentials that could complement McCain's image.
Two years ago, she ousted the state's Republican incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski in the primary, despite having little money and little establishment backing.
She has also distanced herself from two senior Republican office-holders, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don young. Both men are under federal corruption investigations.
She had earned stripes — and enmity — after Murkowski made her head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. From that post, she exposed ethical violations by the state GOP chairman, also a fellow commissioner.
Her husband, Todd Palin, is part Yup'ik Eskimo, and is a blue-collar North Slope oil worker who competes in the Iron Dog, a 1,900-mile snowmobile race. The couple lives in Wasilla. They have five children, the youngest of whom was born in April with Down syndrome.

Pair convicted for murder of 1-year-old girl in Chesapeake
Belinda Tillmon told a jury in Chesapeake Circuit Court about a child named Ny-Asia, a little girl whose life ended at the age of 1."She was a precious little girl," Tillmon said. "Anybody who seen her would love her to death. She brought joy to everybody."
She took the stand Thursday hoping to persuade the jury to give a stiff sentence to the men convicted of killing her daughter.
Earlier in the day, the jury found Shawn Sir Charles Ward and Julian "Ramel" Barksdale guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Ny-Asia, who was killed Nov. 10 during a South Norfolk home invasion. The jury also found Ward, 22, and Barksdale, 20, guilty of the malicious woundings of two others in the house.
The jury deliberated on a sentence for less than three hours before court adjourned. The group will resume this morning. Judge Randy Smith will formally sentence the two men at a later date.
Ward and Barksdale face a minimum of 55 years in prison.
The jury deliberated for two days before finding both men guilty of second-degree murder, burglary while armed, two counts of malicious wounding, attempted murder, wearing a mask in public and four felonies involving the use of a firearm in the commission of crimes. The two had been charged with first-degree murder, but the jury opted for the lesser charge.
The baby was killed when as many as three masked gunmen forced their way into a first-floor apartment in the 3700 block of Bainbridge Blvd. and opened fire. The third person has not been identified or arrested.
The baby's grandmother Mary Arnold was shot in the left hand. The baby's uncle Bernard Person was shot in the arm.
Person caused the intruders to scatter that Saturday afternoon when he returned fire after retrieving his mother's gun. A motive for the home invasion remains unclear.
Before the six-man, six-woman jury returned to the deliberation room Thursday afternoon to determine a sentence, it heard from the victims in the home invasion. Mary Arnold testified that she lost a grandchild, job, home and full use of her hand because of the incident.
"It's been a hard life change for all of us," she said. "It's been a nightmare. I still don't feel safe in my home."
Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney D. J. Hansen showed the jury documents about both defendants' criminal histories, but he did not go into detail.
"These men are no strangers to the criminal justice system" he told the jury.
Ward and Barksdale, cousins, cried when their family members took the witness stand to testify on their behalf. Ward's mother told the jury: "He's not capable of doing this."
Three charged in case of man found dead in Portsmouth
Three people were charged Thursday in connection with the death of a man found on Green Street on Saturday night.
Jerry Carnell Chisholm, 53, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release from the city. Jean Michelle Alghani, 55, was charged with accessory after the fact, a misdemeanor. Late Thursday, Samuel Eugene Lee, 57, was arrested and charged with accessory before the fact, a misdemeanor.
About 11:20 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to the 500 block of Green Street for the report of a person who was unresponsive, police said.
When they arrived, they found Edward W. Bell, 58. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The three suspects and the victim are all homeless, said Ann Hope, a city spokeswoman

Simpson after his eldest daughter knocked him to the ground in a brawl over his girlfriend Christie Prody, sources said. “Arnelle had a fight with Christie over Christie’s behavior. A baby was born with congenital ichthyosis, a rare chromosomal abnormality, for the 2nd time in the southern Turkish town of Iskenderun.
20 protest near site of Sunday Killing
About 20 people stood in the heavy rain this evening at a protest at the north Jackson gas station where a man allegedly trying to steal beer was shot and killed by a store clerk.
Meanwhile, members of the Indian business community are blaming Jackson police for the fatal shooting, saying their stores aren't well patrolled.
The clerk, 31-year-old Sarbrinder Pannu, has been accused of shooting and killing 36-year-old James Hawthorne after Hawthorne allegedly took a case of beer from J&S Food Mart on Medgar Evers Boulevard. Investigators said Pannu followed Hawthorne, who was unarmed, out of the store and shot him twice - in the head and the shoulder.
Pannu is charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. On Tuesday, he was granted a $50,000 bond.
Outside the gas station entrance Wednesday evening, protesters held signs asking for justice and insisting the shooting was racially motivated.
Community activist and radio show host David Archie has organized protests today and Thursday in front of J&S Food Mart. "For a case of beer, a man's life has been taken," Archie said. "We can no longer afford to sit back in silence and watch the violence that is destroying our community."
Archie said Tuesday that black customers are treated differently than customers of other races at Indian-owned and operated businesses. Archie is black, as was Hawthorne.
"They throw our change at us," he said. "They put out-of-order signs on the bathrooms, but they're not out of order. It's so we can't use them."
Archie also took issue with Pannu's bond, saying it is too low.
"I don't know if they've done enough research to know if this guy is a flight risk," he said. "And to have two felonies facing you, I don't think the bond fit the crime. Fifty thousand dollars is such a low bond for someone who has lost a life."
Members of the Indian community have said Pannu's defense is a law that allows people to use deadly force to protect themselves against perceived imminent attacks. However, police have said in this case, the law, referred to as the Castle Doctrine, was misinterpreted.
Pannu's bond wasn't given in open court because Pannu waived his initial appearance, Municipal Court Judge Ali ShamsidDeen said.
Police Chief Malcolm McMillin defended his department, saying precincts have stepped up patrols in commercial areas that have been hit hard by property crimes.
"We are doing everything we can do. We don't have enough personnel to put somebody in every convenience store," McMillin said. "I empathize with the problems they're facing. The Indian community is not being treated any differently, and to say so is a distortion of the facts."

Arguing Out Loud
Break ups can be a very emotional situation especially when they turn ugly in public. I have been apart of a lot of break ups some of them held in the very public forum of myspace. Blogs were written, comments were left, people even changed their myspace names to display their dislike for me. But, what does all this really accomplish?
A lot of time outsiders feel like they know you because you’ve went on a couple of double dates together, or because they’ve read a few personal blogs and seen you display acts of affection in public. At the end of the day break ups are a very personal thing and name calling and public shouting matches should be done in private.
How to handle a public arguement like a rational adult.
Walk away - Walking away from the arguement is the easy way out. Although the person who is most angry may follow you getting to a place were you can calm down and get your thoughts together. So if you need to hop on a bus, get in the car, on the train. Do whatever you have to do to get away.
Kindness - Kill them with kindness. That’s the perfect way to defuse an arguement by not letting the other party get under your skin.
Give in - Sometimes it’s really not that serious. Females and males tend to get very mad over something so simple it makes you question their intelligence.
Hang Up - Now I personally hate to give this advice to anybody, but sometimes you just might have to hang up on a person and let them call your phone a million times to avoid screaming on them in public when you’re on the phone. Even though a lot of times this just make things worst. Sometimes it is needed.

Murder Suspect Puts Shit! on his face to get out of Trial!!
Artives Freeman, whose first-degree murder trial was abruptly halted in May after he entered the courtroom dressed in a suit and tie and covered in his own feces, has been declared competent to stand trial.
Freeman was sent to a mental hospital for an examination. A psychologist concluded he is not mentally ill but had been feigning symptoms of mental illness.
The 24-year-old Charlottean, accused of killing a 46-year-old female acquaintance in April 2006 after an argument, is scheduled to go on trial today. Latahnya Watt Berry was shot to death in a house in the Regal Heights neighborhood in west Charlotte.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Freeman, who has spent more than two years in jail awaiting trial, would be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Superior Court Judge Albert Diaz, who will preside over the murder trial, declared Freeman competent following a hearing in July. But not before Freeman acted out again in a holding cell while waiting to appear in court for the competency hearing.
“Despite being placed in restraints, defendant again spread feces over his face and body and affixed toilet paper to his head,” Diaz wrote in his order declaring Freeman competent. “The bailiffs returned defendant to the main jail where he was cleaned up and transported back to the courthouse.”
After Freeman's courtroom appearance on the first day of his trial in May, Superior Court Judge James Morgan questioned his capacity to proceed and noted the defendant's history with mental health problems.
The judge also questioned the soundness of Freeman's decision to represent himself against the murder charge – even after being repeatedly told about the difficulties he may face in court.
Freeman did not respond to the judge's inquiries.
Morgan ordered Freeman committed to Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh for an evaluation to determine if he's competent to stand trial.
In his order following the resulting competency hearing, Diaz wrote that Freeman never exhibited observable symptoms of mental illness while being examined by Dr. David Hattem, a psychologist at the mental hospital.
“The results of the testing suggested to Dr. Hattem that defendant was in fact feigning symptoms of mental illness,” the judge wrote.
In April, defense lawyer Eric Bach, who was representing Freeman, notified prosecutors that he was considering a defense that his client suffers from “mental infirmity” and “diminished capacity” because of mental retardation.
During the July competency hearing, Diaz tried to question Freeman about his rights to a lawyer and whether he still wanted to defend himself during the trial. Freeman, the judge wrote, refused to respond.
Diaz wrote that available information suggests that, while Freeman's intellect is significantly below average, the psychologist said the defendant is not mentally retarded.
Diaz did decide Freeman is not capable of representing himself. The judge ordered that defense attorney Eric Bach be reappointed to defend him.
Freeman's competency may come up again during the murder trial.
“Although the court has determined that defendant is competent to proceed to trial,” Diaz wrote in his order, “Mr. Bach remains free to re-visit that issue as the case progresses.”
Mom Leaves her baby on a Doorstep
UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Beaver Falls mother is accused of abandoning her baby last week by dropping it off on the porch of a home in Union Township.
According to police, Lelanie Gurley said she didn't want her 4-month-old baby anymore, so she put him on the front step of a home along Grandview Avenue. Gurley said she called the house to tell them the baby was there and watched until someone came out to get him.
"A male on the couch watching (the) Olympics got the call: 'There's a baby outside. I don't want him anymore,'" said Mike Mrozek of the Union Township Police Department. "He thought it was a joke. Later, he went to check and sure enough, a baby was there. It's still a crime. She left him in the heat of the day. Anything could have happened."
Police said the house had caller ID, which led them to Gurley.
Police said the baby, who was found with a diaper bag and baby items, appeared to be in good health. He was turned over to Lawrence County Children and Youth Services.
Police are still investigating why the woman chose that particular home to drop off the baby. She has been charged with endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

5 Places Different Places To Have Sex
5. On A Boat - I would love to have sex on a boat, not a cruise liner although that’s cool too, but a regular speed boat. No one around for miles, the water rocking the boat, “my motion in the ocean” matching the real motion of the ocean. Greatness.
4. On A Bus - I’ve always fantasized about having sex on a bus. I would like for her to be bent over the back of the chair while I pound her. I’ll have her moaning and trying to find something to balance on. It might even be more fun to do it on a crowded bus. Sidenote - One night I could have sworn I saw someone getting head on the bus, but I wasn’t about to stare to find out.

HIT-&-RUN JERK SUES OVER CAR
A hit-and-run driver who killed a man with his Bentley is suing the city - for damaging his car while it was impounded.
Harry Shasho, 38, claims he's due $190,000 because cops impounding his 2005 Bentley Continental - the car involved in his fatal Brooklyn hit-and-run - allowed mold to fester inside.
But he makes no mention anywhere in the suit about the reason it was impounded.
Shasho was arrested in the early hours of Oct. 1, 2005, after mowing down Louis Couch on Ocean Parkway. Shasho heartlessly took off and left the man to die in the street.
According to police, Shasho hit Couch, 54, and then drove home. He was arrested within hours after cops found a side-view mirror in the road. The windshield was also cracked, and the headlight, fender and roof were damaged.
Shasho, who owns the Brooklyn-based 212 Motoring, which customizes luxury cars, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it.
He served 20 days of community service, lost his license for six months, and was on probation for five years.
Now Shasho claims the car "was in excellent condition, proper working order and fully functional . . . with no noticeable defects or damage" when the police impounded it.
In the year and a half cops parked it in a Queens impound as evidence, they allowed mold to grow inside and water damage to occur, "rendering the vehicle inoperable," the suit claims.
He claims they violated his property rights by not returning it to him in "good condition."
Shasho wants the NYPD to fork over $190,000.

Shooting at Antoine Walker Birthday Party
Chicago Police are investigating whether the Monday morning shootings of two men near the Rock "n" Roll McDonald"s resulted from a fight that spilled out of a club where there was a party for NBA player Antoine Walker, sources said.
The birthday party for Walker was held Sunday at Excalibur, 632 N. Dearborn, according to sources close to the player. But Walker"s mother"who was at the party all night"said there were no fights she was aware of at the gathering.
Diane Walker said the party for her son was held in the entire club and that it was "fantastic""" with no problems.
Chicago Police were called to Clark and Ohio about 4:15 a.m. after shots were reported in the area.
The two victims had already driven themselves to Stroger Hospital, where 25-year-old Curtis Ellis died, authorities said. The second victim, a 30-year-old, was listed in critical condition.
Police are investigating whether the shooting stemmed from a gang dispute and whether it"s connected to a fight that might have happened at Excaliber.
Walker recently was traded from the Minnesota Timberwovles to the Memphis Grizzlies. He graduated from Mount Carmel high school and was one of several NBA players who were the victims of home invasions last year
Not On The First Night
I have often wondered what was the big issue w/ having sex on the first night. I have been told by many females that they already know if they are going to sleep w/ a guy from the moment they meet him. So if that’s the case why withhold the coochie? Time after time again I have met girls who preached about not giving it up on the first date only to have her panties hanging from my ceiling fan and an ankle on each of her earlobes. Now I take nothing away from them at all guys do it all the time and are not questioned for it at all. But when a female give it up too fast she is labeled a Hoe or easy. Well let me be the first to tell you that that logic is absolutely false!! I know Tons of girls who made a guy wait months only to sleep w/ him, his best friend, his uncle, cousin, daddy, and his chick on the side!!!
Perfect example I have a friend who shall remain nameless. Now from what I can tell he never had much luck w/ girls. I lost contact w/ him for a while only to find out he’s involve w/ a girl who my whole crew ran through in our hay day… 1,2,3,4, 5, of my friend hit it and hit it again. Hell she even wanted a run at me but I didn’t want to be number 6, so I passed. I have standards. Now she decided to sleep w/ all of my friends at different times in the course of me knowing her. So when I found out she was w/ him i wanted to tell him of her past but when he spoke of her i could hear the love in every word he spoke as he told me about how she made him wait. So I never told him maybe she changed, they were together for years… they seemed happy and honestly she was good for him. I would feel so Uncomfortable in their house as she served me Chicken Wings,and beer during card games. Handed me the potato salad for cookouts, she was doing all type of wife like things.
I also know girls who gave it up on the first night and are still w/ that guy today Married actually. I would go into detail but i think she reads my blogs… lol But what I’m trying to say is that if you like someone and you want to bump uglies w/ them then go ahead and do it, you might just save yourself some time and frustration. Yesterday while surfing the internet I found a study which claims that being on the pill will screw up a woman’s ability to sniff out a compatible mate. The Pre-Show

Cop charged in taser death during drug bust
CNN) -- A Louisiana grand jury indicted a former police officer on a manslaughter charge in the death of a man who was Tasered nine times while handcuffed, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Scott Nugent also was charged with felony criminal malfeasance in connection with the January death of Baron "Scooter" Pikes.
Pikes, a 21-year-old sawmill worker, tried to run from Winnfield police, who wanted to arrest him on a warrant charging him with cocaine possession.
A coroner's report found that Pikes was handcuffed and on the ground when first stunned with a Taser and might have been dead before the last two 50,000-volt shocks were delivered.
Nugent, who authorities said was the arresting officer, was suspended and ultimately fired in May.
If convicted, Nugent could get up to 40 years for the manslaughter charge and five years for the criminal malfeasance charge, Winn Parish District

12-Year-Old Remains Locked Up After Walgreens Robbery
ORLANDO -- The 12-year-old accused of trying to rob a local pharmacy with two BB guns will remain locked up.
On Tuesday, he appeared before a judge, one day after Orlando police said he snuck out of his house and then held up the Walgreens at Kirkman Road and Raleigh Street.
However, the boy's father said the police and media have it all wrong, and that his son is a good kid.
"We hear everything that's on TV and we hear everything that's out there,” said the boy’s father. “You know what, there's two sides to every story. He's actually a sweet kid. You know what, everybody probably hears that about their kids, but you know, I think the entire situation, everybody out here who got a camera or a microphone in my face, this time you guys might have this one wrong."
The father pleaded with a judge to release the boy into his custody, but that request was denied.
The boy is due back in court Sept. 11

The Stop Tricking Movement
When did tricking come back in style? I mean I was brought up in the error of songs like scrubs, pigeons, independent women and cheapskate. I walked around singing you ain’t getting nada from us, not even a dollar from us!! Now all I hear in every song is “It ain’t tricking if you got it” well d*mn it yes it is tricking!!
I think men are getting it confused on what is tricking and what is not tricking. So allow me to break it down.
NOT TRICKING: Buying a girl a drink
TRICKING: Giving her an open tab at the bar
NOT TRICKING: Giving a girl gas money because she drove over to your house
TRICKING: Buying her a car because she got a fatty
The point I’m trying to make is that it’s okay to give your girl a gift or two, its okay to do nice things for her, but dropping thousands on a female you met a week ago… Is just stupid. Making it rain in the club, dumb!

$315 Ain’t Worth Your Soul
Imagine if you could barely afford to put food in your mouth, imagine that you’re feeling the pain of heartbreak from a man who slept with your best friend. Now imagine look of disappointment on your parents face when you tell them you’re pregnant and they put you out on the street. Imagine that conversation you have to have with God, when you explain to him why you have to get rid of this child because you know you’re not able to take care of them and raise them to be a productive human being. Imagine all of this happen to you and you have to deal with anti abortion fanatics outside of the “doctor’s office”.
This is the reality of many females today. Now let me state that I do not believe in abortions, but I do believe in a woman’s right to choose. It’s not up to me or anyone else to decide if a woman should or should not have a baby. It’s her body and it’s her life so ultimately it’s her decision all I can do is give my 2 cents and hope she takes my advice.
Yet people stand outside of the clinics and pass out brochures with images of the horrible thing that’s about to be done. Most woman who have gone through this have already beat themselves up and they don’t need someone else they don’t know, and who doesn’t know them trying to add fuel to the flames of the dreadful decision they had to make. R.I.P Isaac Hayes he was 65
Isaac Hayes died early this morning in a Memphis hospital.
According to WMC, a Shelby County sheriff's deputy responded to call from Hayes' wife after she found him on the floor near a treadmill inside their home.
Hayes was taken to Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, and was pronounced dead at 2:08 AM.

R.I.P Bernie Mac Forever will be Missed
"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement. She said no other details were available and requested that his family's privacy be respected. Earlier this week she had said reports of Mac's serious illness were overstated and that he was expected to make a full recovery.
In recent years, Mac (real name: Bernard Jeffery McCullough) had battled an inflammatory lung disease known as sarcoidosis, which causes inflammation in the lungs, lymph nodes and other organs. It had been in remission since 2005, and Smith had said Mac's pneumonia was not related to it.
In addition to his appearance in last year's hit "Transformers," Mac had recently been working on the TV series "Starting Under," as well as several films, including the Samuel L. Jackson flick "Soul Men" (slated for release later this year) and the John Travolta comedy "Old Dogs," which is scheduled for a 2009 release. The status of those films was unclear at press time.
Recently Mac made headlines when he attended a Barack Obama fundraiser and made a few lighthearted comments about the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. "I'm proud of him because politics is dirty, especially with Republicans," he said. "People like rumors. They are going to say things like, you know, 'You was in the club with Lil' Kim, and you and Kanye West got in a fistfight.' " The comments garnered a rebuke from Obama's campaign.
Mac (Bernard Jeffrey McCullough) was born on October 5, 1957, in Chicago, and grew up on the city's South Side, according to AP. His first standup performance was at a church dinner when he was 8, and he began doing standup at clubs in Chicago at 20. His film career began with a small role in "Mo' Money" in 1992. Mac went on to appear in the "Ocean's 11" films with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, "Guess Who" with Ashton Kutcher, "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and other films.
Mac is perhaps best known for his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired from 2001 to 2006. The series, about a man's adventures raising his sister's three children, won a Peabody Award in 2002, and earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac. He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001, with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" co-stars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer.
Mac is survived by his wife, Rhonda McCullough, their daughter, Je'Niece, a son-in-law and a granddaughter.

Woman Who Killed Ex-Boyfriend May Get New Trial
ATLANTA -- A judge is scheduled to decide Friday whether an elderly woman convicted of shooting and killing her ex-boyfriend should get a new trial.
In 2006, an Atlanta jury convicted Lena Driskell of murder in the death of Herman Winslow, 85, in June 2005 at the assisted living home where they both lived.
Police said Driskell was angry that their romance had ended. She was sentenced to life in prison plus five years.
During her trial, the defense acknowledged that Driskell shot Winslow, but argued for a verdict of not guilty by reason of mental defect.

The Magic Number

Houston woman charged with kidnapping five New Orleans children she took in after Katrina
HOUSTON (AP) -- Authorities searched Wednesday for five children they say were abducted by a woman who took the Louisiana family in after Hurricane Katrina.
The woman, Rhonda Tavey, told Dallas television station WFAA that she had taken the children for their own safety. An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday for the children, two boys and three girls ages 3 to 8. Tavey is not considered armed or dangerous, Hawkins said.
"It's not kidnapping on my part. It's child abandonment on their part," she told the station. The children gathered close to Tavey or played on the floor as she was interviewed.
Tavey said their mother, Erica Alphonse, had been gone for some time and "caused total chaos" in her house when she came back earlier this summer.
"I love my children with all my heart," Alphonse told Houston television station KHOU.
Prosecutors say Tavey was a volunteer after Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast in August 2005. She opened her home to the children and Alphonse.
Harris County Assistant District Attorney Jane Waters, chief of the family criminal law division, told the Houston Chronicle that "they were all one big happy family" before Alphonse called the Harris County constable's office July 13.
Constable spokesman Capt. Paul Staton said Alphonse reported that "an acquaintance of hers was being reluctant to let her see her own children," the newspaper reported.
"Basically, she took in the family, including the mom, and then when it came time for her to give the kids back to their mom she refused and she left the area," Waters told the paper.
The Harris County district attorney's office charged Tavey, 44, with five counts of kidnapping. Spokeswoman Donna Hawkins told The Associated Press that constables had contacted Tavey's attorney before filing charges against her on Monday but that the woman refused to return the children.
Tavey told The Dallas Morning News that she plans to turn herself in as soon as she talks to her attorney. No lawyer for Tavey could immediately be located by The Associated Press. Hawkins said she did not know the name of Tavey's attorney.
Tavey told WFAA earlier Wednesday in Fort Worth, before the Amber Alert was issued, that the children's "parents are into drugs, crime and I know God put these kids into my hands to take care of."
"My whole thing is the safety and well-being of the kids is number one," Tavey told WFAA. "And that's why I've taken the efforts I have to remove them from all of that harm and hurt toward them."

Newark man pleads guilty to death of 2-year-old son
A Licking County man whose trial was supposed to start today in the methadone-overdose death of his 2-year-old son pleaded guilty instead.
Daniel Masters, 34, of Newark, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in the death of Benjamin Scott Masters.
Benjamin died March 10. Toxicology tests showed the boy died from ingesting methadone. Masters later admitted that he left the boy and his 1-year-old brother alone in the bathroom with an open bottle of the narcotic pain reliever. He returned a minute later to find Benjamin holding the bottle.
Sentencing was set for Sept. 4.
Jury convicts teen of killing another teen last year
A Rochester teenager was convicted today of slaying another teen last year.
State Supreme Court jurors acquitted De’Shequan L. Nathan, 17, of second-degree murder but convicted him of first-degree manslaughter in the shooting of Christopher Jones, 16, on Nov. 17, 2007.
Nathan, who unsuccessfully claimed he was drunk and was defending a friend in a fight, faces a mandatory prison term ranging from five years to 25 years when Justice Joseph D. Valentino sentences him Sept. 18, said Assistant District Attorney Avik Ganguly.
“We’re pleased with the verdict and the fact that the jury saw through the defendant’s claims that he was too drunk and was justified in this horrible act,” Ganguly said.
Jones was gunned down with one shot fired from a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle at Lexington Avenue and Pierpont Street. His brother, Mace Forbes, 24, was shot and wounded a couple of houses away from the same corner on July 15.
Jones and another teen got into a fist fight because the other teen was upset that his 13-year-old female cousin was hanging around with Jones, the prosecution said.
A friend of Jones pulled him away from the fight, but Jones ran back and landed another punch, according to testimony. Witnesses said Nathan, a friend of the teen with whom Jones fought, pulled out his rifle, raised it at Jones and fired, hitting Jones in the chest.
Unprotected Sex is The New Marriage
Is unprotected sex the new marriage? Thats what an Oakland teenager had to say that has the world in a buzz. He suggested that “among his friends and acquaintances, ditching the condoms for the pill, signifies taking monogamy to a new level.” I thought about it, I looked at all my relationships and well I’ve always gone by that logic as well. Once the condom comes off we are together, and she graduated to the title of wifey.
Some said it was ‘mindless hip-hop MTV” and not intelligent information, but I think its just how people think in urban America. Its not like this is the first backwards ideology we declare gospel there are plenty. We’ll have oral sex with out protection but won’t have intercourse without protection, so we’ll rather eat the disease… Yeah genius.
Now, I do believe that having unprotected sex does build a certain level of trust between partners that doesn’t come natural. Sex in general is a crap roll with your life, and a lot of men and women are gambling with their life, hoping they don’t come home with something that doesn’t go away. Take your children to work day? Store video shows man with two tots in tow gunning down clerk
Officers arrested and charged Jermaine Canada, 27, with first-degree murder. A resident called 911 around 9 a.m. on Monday and reported seeing a man matching the description of the gunman in the 2600 block of W. Camelback Road, police said.
"The children were not with him at the time he was taken into custody, and that was a great concern for us," said Detective Stacie Derge with the Phoenix Police Department. "We didn't know where those kids were, but thankfully the kids are OK and they are in the custody of their mother."
The man had a brief conversation with the 7-Eleven clerk around 2:15 a.m. and then opened fire while holding the 2-year-old child, killing the 62-year-old clerk, officers said. He then walked out of the store at 2651 W. Glendale Ave. with the children, who did not appear to be injured, police said.
Young Women Are Bitter, Cant Embrace Womanhood
Jasmine Guy told Essence “I think our younger women have lost the ability to embrace their womanhood. There’s so much we try to do that’s against our nature, and it’s made us hard, cold, bitter and fearful.” The writer of the article said it was a great point to which “Whitley” added:
“…a lot of us are without partners, so we have to do double duty. We develop another part of ourselves to compensate for that. We haven’t been taught that those things that are innate in us-being maternal or being soft or being vulnerable-are good things. We’re taught to be strong and in that strength comes a certain dismissal of what we’re really feeling inside.”
I’m not sure where I stand on this one, on one hand I believe that women should be strong. Strong enough to support her man if needed. Yet she should still be a woman who is able to do things that are generally associated with being a woman, like cooking, cleaning, and all the things Donna Reed did.
At the same time a woman has to be strong because some men have never received home training. I can understand how a woman would develop a hard exterior shell with the way men, lie, cheat and break hearts all for the chance to stick themselves in a woman. A good looking woman can’t walk 20 steps without a man trying to bang them. I guess this is a yet another no win situation for the woman.
