A police source said that the 20-year-old Barbados- born performer, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was providing "ongoing" cooperation to detectives who booked Brown on Sunday on suspicion of making criminal threats against her.
An altercation with Brown early Sunday morning after a pre-Grammy Awards party left Rihanna with what police called "visible injuries," including what a police source described as bruises and a scratch on her face.
She was treated at a "major medical facility," a police source said.
Brown, a 19-year-old who has a double-platinum record, fled before officers arrived.
But he surrendered at the LAPD's Wilshire Station about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, and, after being questioned, was booked on suspicion of making a felony criminal threat, said Officer Karen Smith.
"At the time the case is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, additional charges may be filed," police said in a statement.
Brown posted $50,000 bail and was released at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Brown and Rihanna were both nominated -- neither won Grammys -- and both were scheduled to perform at the awards presentation, but neither attended the ceremony.
The fight occurred in Hancock Park, where Brown had stopped a rented Lamborghini he was driving. The luxury car has been impounded because the alleged assault may have begun in the vehicle, a police source said.
The makers of Doublemint gum Monday backed away from an endorsement deal with Brown, saying it was suspending advertising featuring the entertainer until his current legal troubles are resolved.
