MEMPHIS, TN - Noura Jackson was 18 when her mother was murdered in their East Memphis home on June 5, 2005.
Memphis Police say 39 year-old Jennifer Jackson had been stabbed more than 50 times. There were signs, say investigators, that Jackson fought back against her assailant.
When Noura was taken in for questioning, she had a cut on one of her hands that homicide detectives say would be consistent with someone who was holding a knife during an attack.
She claimed she cut herself at a festival on June 3rd. But at least two witnesses who saw her the following day told police they saw no cuts on the young woman's hands.
Noura Jackson was arrested and charged with first degree murder four months after her mother's killing. Now age 21, she's been in jail awaiting trial for the past three years.
On Monday, February 9, 2009, jury selection begins. The defense is expected to try and blame the crime on another person. Prosecutors will examine Jackson's strained relationship with her mother in the months leading up to the killing
