Stanislaus County sheriff's officials early Saturday arrested a man believed to have shot an 18-year-old man in a drive-by shooting Friday night in south Modesto, a department spokesman said.
The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his back, deputy Royjindar Singh said. The victim was being treated at a Modesto hospital. His wounds were not life-threatening. Sheriff's officials did not release the victim's name to ensure his safety.
The shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 1500 block of Lassen Avenue, just west of Ustick Road. The 18-year-old was standing in front of a home when a vehicle pulled up. The shooter got out of the car and fired shots at the victim before getting back into the car and fleeing, Singh said.
Sheriff's officials identified Javier Garcia, 18, above, of Modesto, as the suspect and arrested him about 12:30 a.m. on suspicion of attempted murder, Singh said.
