Memphis, TN- A man accused of shooting a Mid-South man in a wheelchair is behind bars and this isn’t his first run-in with the law.
Terrence Moorehead is charged with attempted murder. Police say he shot Charles McDonald, a paraplegic man, at 785 Polk Avenue in South Memphis on Friday, September 19, 2008.
Eyewitnesses say McDonald was shot five times after an argument over a dice game. McDonald is still in “The Med” in critical condition, but police say he was able to identify the shooter.
We took a look at the accused shooter’s criminal record and found he has already served time for second degree murder. In 1991, a judge sentenced Moorehead to 22 years in jail, but records show he was released in 1998. Moorehead stayed out of trouble until 2006, when he was arrested for vandalism.
As far as the victim, Charles McDonald's brother says violence is what put him in a wheelchair.
"He was shot in the back in front of Lemoyne Owen College about seven years ago. It’s a miracle he’s still here getting shot again,” says Michael McDonald.
Charles McDonald is also no stranger to crime. Between 1984 and 1992, he was arrested for aggravated rape, robbery, assault and drug possession, but his brother says McDonald had cleaned up his act.
Terrence Moorehead will be in Shelby County Court next on October 8, 2008.
